Back when Modernism looked like it would be replaced by the hocus pocus of two-dimensional Postmodernism and the zig-zag excesses of Deconstruction, Erik Maran and Ira Smith met in a Columbia University classroom and vowed to search for a less frivolous, more authentic expression for their architecture, and for those who inhabit it.

 

Three decades later, Smith Maran deploys an encyclopedic knowledge of art and architecture in order to create fitting and enduring destinations for a wide range of clients. We are Modernists with a long view, respectful of history and energized by its echoes.
